Indian Americans welcome summons by India's Supreme Court to interrogate Gujarat CM Modi for role in 2002 Pogroms

Indian Muslim Council-USA (IMC-USA - http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court of India to order the interrogation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiring into the 2002 massacres.

"We urge strong measures be taken to ensure a transparent, unbiased interrogation and that an FIR be registered against Modi in light of the Tehelka video tape confessions" said Rasheed Ahmed, the president of IMC-USA. In a sting operation conducted by the investigative magazine Tehelka, several Hindutva activists involved in the pogrom including the Gujarat state prosecutor were caught on tape boasting how they were able to derail the judicial process of redressing justice to the victims.

Indian American Muslim group demands denouncement of communal ideology or resignation from GHMC Mayor

Indian Muslim Council-USA (IMC-USA: http://www.imc-usa.org ) an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, has communicated to the Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Banda Karthika Reddy, that she publically denounce communally motivated ideologies of organizations such as the VHP or resign from the Mayoral post.

IMC-USA has also communicated to the All India Congress Committee President Madame Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh K Rosaiah, and Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President D. Srinivas that they take immediate disciplinary action against B. Karthika Reddy seeking profound clarification on her participation in the three day meeting of the All-India Dharma Prachara Samiti of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) at Gujarati Seva Samaj Bhavan on March 13th.

Indian Americans reaffirm efforts towards justice on Eighth Anniversary of Gujarat Genocide

February 28, 2010 was the eighth anniversary of the Gujarat genocide.  Between February 28 and March 2, 2002, a three-day retaliatory killing spree was perpetrated against Indian Muslims from the state of Gujarat by mobs incited by rhetoric of hate by extremist Hindutva leaders.  By the time the brutality had subsided, international human rights groups such as the Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International estimated that over 2000 civilians were killed, hundreds of women were gang-raped, over 150,000 were displaced, and the socio-economic infrastructure of the Muslim community was systematically targeted.
