Indian American Muslim group pays tribute to the victims and heroes of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks

Indian American Muslim group pays tribute to the victims including the law and order personals, most notably ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, on the first anniversary of Mumbai terror attacks Indian Muslim Council-USA (IMC-USA: http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, pays tribute on the first anniversary of Mumbai terror attacks to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks. IMC-USA remembers with gratitude the courage and sacrifice of the law and order personals, most notably ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, who laid their lives protecting the country.

IMC-USA also expressed concerns about the implications of the draconian parts of the laws hastily passed in the height of the emotions of Mumbai terror attacks without sufficient deliberations.

An year ago on November 26, 2008 a well coordinated bombings and random shootings in the city of Mumbai the financial hub of India resulted in the deaths of 173 and injuring over 300 Indian citizens including several foreigners. The terror attacks lasted until November 29, 2008. These attacks were condemned worldwide including Muslims in India.

Rasheed Ahmed, President of IMC-USA expressed his concern that “overall the anti-terrorism efforts in India is less then commendable, so far neither the cross-border nor the homegrown terror outfits are under check” He pointed out the investigations of Goa, Malegaon and Nanded blasts appear to be dealt with local political sensitivities rather than in the interest of national security.

IMC-USA calls on the Indian government to setup a high level commission to investigate the increasing scourge of violence and terrorism in the country and ways to engage the civil society in effectively curbing this menace.

Indian Muslim Council-USA is the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with 10 chapters across the nation.
